Description

The Freedom Chrome extension provides our "green screen" on websites blocked by Freedom. When you visit a blocked website, you'll see our calming green screen and be directed back towards your work. On Mac and Windows devices, the Freedom extension is designed to be paired with our desktop apps and does not have stand-alone functionality. On ChromeOS (ChromeBooks) and Linux devices, Freedom connects directly to our service and enables you to block websites or the entire internet. The Freedom Chrome extension works with both our trial (free) and premium (paid) accounts. We offer a range of extensions to help you improve your digital habits, including Pause, Insight, and Limit. Thousands of people rely on Freedom every day to write, study, cook, design, build, play, think, learn, and find the focus to do the things that truly matter. We're honored to help you. Used to be able to just use it as an extension, now you need to download a desktop app so they can harvest more of your data. Freedom from what? Not corporations continuously trying to steal your attention and your data, thats for sure. Product was built to scam, not to help.

Not only does this "extension" require you to install a standalone application for it to function, but it also requires a $9 a month subscription.

very bad, keep sending spam even though I blocked them thousand of times and cancelled subscription. the program itself doesn't work at all but refuses to be uninstalled so you get the feeling this is a virus all the time

This is actually a paid extension. I would have liked it to be clearer from the Chrome Web Store page. I think a lot of your bad reviews may be users that never had any intention to pay anything but were still tricked to install the extension and create an account.

Not actually free just charge for it in the first place instead of false advertising and making people go through a bunch of annoying sign ups just to reveal your lies.

I paid for the lifetime version, approx $64. I checked to ensure all features were correct and compatible with my laptop. Wished I'd read the reviews here as it doesn't work and for that amount of money it should work which zero glitches. I'm asking for a refund as I'm not wasting money on an unreliable product that sometimes blocks things and sometimes doesn't, and ignores my whitelist despite that being an advertised feature. I sent freedom the troubleshoot info and screenshots so now hope they'll do the decent thing and offer me a refund.

This thing is garbage. Way too glitchy. Most of the time it doesn't work. It's supposed to make you waste less time but the app wastes time with all the confusing, unintuitive editing features and its failures to function.

Doesn't work. Tried using it on Twitch by setting 0~5 min . It didn't prompt a warning nor did send me to Freedom's green screen when time reached its limit.

Prompts you to give email to start using it and then tells you that you have to pay for it. Wouldn't have added it if I knew it was a paid application, and jesus christ is the thing expensive. You need to subscribe just to block a website. Move to china and they'll do it for you for free :-)

Requires account to use. The functionality could have been handled with a local file set-up. Not willing to share my data

Great product...when it works. Which is completely sporadic. Preset scheduled sessions randomly don't engage at all, for no explicable reason. For example, you have a recurrent session set to start Mon, Tues, Weds, at 11:00 and it will work correctly Monday and Wednesday, but not Tuesday one week, and the next work perfectly, and the one after that, skip Monday, but Tuesday and Wednesday work. It's extremely frustrating. Prescheduled sessions also sometimes start at a slightly varying time, such as an 11:00 session starting at 11:06 one night, or 11:02 another.

Worked well on my Samsung smartphone. Switched to Pixel 9a and it no longer works at all.

Works sporadically on web. And when it does work, it works for 2 minutes then proceeds to not work anymore for an hour after. Support wasn't able to solve it either. So although I do recommend Freedom for ios, I would discourage installing it to block google chrome apps. However, Freedom blocks ios apps and other pc applications well. I think I'll install another software just for google chrome blocking but keep Freedom for pc and ios blocking. Also I've been using this software for years, and not much has been added. I've seen newer software add things like time limits (directly to the main app) , session breaks, different commitments on different sessions (like only having locked mode on particular sessions), whitelists, etc. None of these which Freedom has. Maybe its hard to implement these features on a blocker that sycs across multiple devices? Idk.

I am a long time Freedom paid user, recently I switched to two new browsers specifically Arc and Zen Browsers, and I was disappointed to see that the Freedom extension ceases to work while the other free extensions such as Limit and Pause works, don't get why the premium product fails to work however the free extension works, for now, the extension gets a 2 star for me, it worked so well before I switched my browsers

Installed and added this app because it was supposed to work on multiple devices. In reality, that means you have to set up a blocklist for each devices and start your session on each devices. Maybe I am getting it wrong but the UI is really throwing me off here. I signed in 3 times and I have spend 30 min figuring out how to set it up, without results. Please team, improve your UI because you are loosing users here..

While the Freedom App and subscription is stellar, I don't get the point of this extension. Is this just a fat bookmark to the management page? Why isn't it so that I can add a current page directly to my blocklists when you catch yourself ? So much wasted potential.

It's really unreliable. It'll work for me for several days and then just stop working. Moving to trash and reinstalling has helped, but who's got time to repeatedly do that. It works consistently on my phone/apps. But the desktop version is a mess.

Arc Browser does not work well and websites are displayed without being blocked.

Hi John, any plans to make the ios expirence of freedom more like the app "AppBlock" where it blocks the app using the screen time feature instead of blocking the internet with VPN? I love the fact the with Freedom I can block all my devices at the same time

Not able to use it without the windows app. My workplace policies does not allow me to install software just chrome extensions, but I cannot use the extension in windows without installing the windows app. Totally a bummer.

Excellent on Windows and Android, but could not figure out how I could add Linux devices. I surely hope that the Linux build (at least for debian-based package distribution) comes soon, and not only in the form of browser extension.

Overall, a good app. But I desperately would like a better way to submit product requests. The Google form is a very bad system. Happy to change my review to 5 stars once I see some improvement in this regard. Heck, I'd be willing to pay much more for the subscription if we could just get some keyword blocking.

Quality app in general. However, there's one very annoying bug in the Windows app: When you click on the Freedom icon during a session, a green box appears that says "Your Freedom session has started. ##:##:##", where the last part is a countdown. This box then stays on my screen regardless of what I do. Fix this bug and I'll give 5 stars.

When Freedom works, it is fantastic. The problem is that it sporadically won't work. I've re-installed this multiple times on my laptop and after a week or so, the program just stops working, and the pre-scheduled time blocks simply don't start. Same for the Chrome extension. I've tried re-installing, which fixes the app for a week or so... and then it stops working again. I purchased this a few months ago and probably won't be renewing it when my sub expires. (FWIW it works fine on my phone 100% of the time. It's just laptop/ chrome I struggle with).

It would be nice if the URL of the blocked site was chrome-extension://…/#url=https://www.facebook.com/… instead of https://blocked.freedom.to/ (without any further parameters). Otherwise, if you close and re-open the browser while a tab has been blocked, you don't know anymore which website it was and can't recover the tab. (The behavior should be like that of "The Great Suspender" extension, which has a different purpose but works in a similar way.)
