Proxy Switcher is a lightweight, fast VPN alternative for scenarios where you specifically need a proxy: store multiple profiles in the ip:port:user:pass format, switch with one click, and route selected sites through secure HTTP(S)/SOCKS endpoints. Encryption and privacy depend on the proxy (e.g., HTTPS/SOCKS5). Chrome asks for login/password even if I put them in the string? The browser may still prompt due to security policies. Enter credentials in the dialog—expected behavior. How to “forget” proxy authorization? Disable the profile in the popup/settings, remove any saved OS credentials (if cached), restart the browser. Create a new profile if needed. Can I route only part of traffic through the proxy? Yes. Use exclusions (bypass) for domains and local networks—everything else goes through the proxy. Where are profiles stored? Locally, in chrome.storage. Data never leaves your device. Reliability tips: Check node availability (ping, port). For SOCKS5, use the correct port and auth if required.
