Description

The "Open in Firefox" extension simplifies opening the current tab or links within the current tab in the Firefox browser. This functionality can be initiated via the right-click context menu, a toolbar button, or left-clicking on a link with or without a modifier key. This extension streamlines link transfer between different web browsers, eliminating the need to copy a link from one browser, paste it into the OS clipboard, and then paste it into another browser. Key Features: - Open a website's hostname directly in Firefox. - Open a specific URL in Firefox. - Launch all URLs containing a specific keyword in Firefox. - Optionally close the current tab after transferring a link. - Optionally, do not block the left-click action when transferring a link. - Support for managed storage, allowing administrators to configure extension settings. - Support for user-defined JS script to decide whether the link should be blocked and passed to the Firefox browser or not When the extension detects an open instance of the Firefox browser, it opens the link in a new browser tab. If no open Firefox instance is found, it initiates a new Firefox window. You can customize URLs or hostnames to be automatically redirected to Firefox from the options page. You also have the option to close the source tab once the link transfer is completed. This allows you to view a specific website in Firefox, even if Chrome is your primary browser. Important Notes: 1. To use this extension to open links in the Firefox browser, you'll need to install a minimal native client. Installation instructions for the native client are provided when you attempt to open a link. Additionally, there are two short video tutorials in the screenshot section, covering installation steps for both Windows and Linux or Mac operating systems. 2. This extension supports managed storage, allowing domain administrators to configure certain preferences. 3. It can send links via left-click, a combination of left-click and a keyboard meta key, or during top-level navigation. 4. As of now, there is no version available for Chrome OS. It doesn't seem to work for Chrome OS. I downloaded the zip file but what I got seems to be for windows and they don't have an available file for chromebooks, or at least as far as I can see. Also, the steps are way too vague and don't really help if you don't already know what you're doing. I think it should be made clear it doesn't work for chromebooks.

Doesn't work without installing additional software and that's not made clear before hand. Be honest from the start.

I clicked the "one more step", downloaded the zip file. But giving access by letting this program run a batch file, and also an executible file? No, I'm not that trusting of any app developer. I thought "install extension" was install? I agree with other comments, seems too shady. Developer should have the user manually set up the machine rather than batch file and exe files. Uninstalled of course. And I did not run the batch file, no no no.

Doesn't work. Installed the communicator as directed, but won't open pages in Firefox still.

Wasted 45min. After installing the bat file went through reading copious amounts of circular references to things I have no idea about. I installed the bat file... but apparently there are numerous additional layers deep I gotta go. Sadly uninstall.

Does not work! It keeps giving an error message that makes absolutely no sense. It says to open and install the native client but gives no indication where it might be. I click "check connection"and the popup says the "Native client version is 0.5.3. So what do I do now? I know, uninstall the extension and try another.

Doesn't work for url's that are in the Chrome bookmarks, so it's useless for me.

Just couldn’t get it to work on Linux Mint 21 Installed “install.sh” and got the result >>> host is ready <<< but when tested got “cannot find the native client. Follow the 3 steps to install the native client”. So I will just have to copy and paste for now.

I don't need the functionality of this extension myself. I was looking for a simple Windows solution to convert PDFs to Text out of the browser for a large group of people who are provided PDF files - in order to use an excellent text-to-speech reader. There might be a pdf reader and if there is I'll eventually find it. I use linux personally for most of my file manipulation including file conversions. So, 1 star for being the only kid on the block that has anything posted. The second star to encourage the developers to code this into a typical extension that provides a straightforward process. I won't be using this add-on at this time. Super Users might get it to work and that is cool esp if you don't have any other solutions. Good Luck Developers.

I have heard some disturbing things about Google recently, but unfortunately that was not long after the purchase of my second Chromebook. The fact that it did not work for me is not the developers fault. Google should have one source for code that runs with the Chrome browser on Chromes OS, and another for the Chrome browser on everything else. The fact that the browser and the operating system are both named Chrome has always been a source of confusion.

This is not compatible to my chrome book computer. It will not down load even though it states that it is compatible to chrome book computers.

It wants me to install some .bat file in addition to the extension, yeah no, looks too dodgy, removed.

It doesn't work entirely as it should, for instance I want to use it in the Protonmail PWA, but only the interface elements are opened in Firefox, not links in the email.

I imagine the extension works fine, but the thing is, my chromebook cant work with this extension. and i cant find why that is. i don't know if my chromebook is a specific make and model, or if my chromebook isn't completely updated. But the video attached to this says that the extension's compatible with chromebooks, even though it's not working for me. \_(-_-)_/

This extension is a real must for escaping Chrome Apps jailing as Google is forcing opening Chrome for any link present from a web app created with it. As Firefox support for web-apps is not yet useful for practical purposes (no dock windows or app icons on macos at least), we are forced to create web apps using Chrome. That comes with a big price: any link you click on these apps, will open in Chrome instead of using the system default browser. This extension can ameliorate this but it seems to still not work for changing all links by default, even if I tried to reverse mode.
