doesnt work at all
Causes a STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION error in Google Chrome. When I deactivate the extension in Chrome, Facebook loads perfectly. This forced me back to the Reader built into Chrome, which functions perfectly.
Slow, does not work.
Doesn't work.
The sticky header on my website is broken every time I turn this extension on. I thought I was going mad. I tried to fix my website for several days, when in fact it's just this extension in Google Chrome that is breaking on my end.
I have no idea what this is or why I have it, it is so distracting and not needed
Didn't install this. Don't want this. Have no idea why anyone needs a shortcut to send a tweet (or X or whatever its now called) from a cell in an google sheet. Just more screen clutter
This reader mode pop up is extremely annoying and pops up over the content I am working on. If you are trying to sell this product, it isn't working. I am spending all my time trying to remove it.
did not ever install this like other reviews, very sketchy.
--- NOT SECURE --- Company has been compromised by a securety breach, leaked all sensitive data. I do reccomand anyone that have this extention installed to uninstall it asap.
***SECURITY BREACH*** I recommend anyone using this extension to log out from Facebook immediately (and possibly other sites) using Chrome and use another browser to change their password there. After this is done you can then decide if you will continue using Reader Mode, modify its permissions (Chrome Extension settings > Site Access: Change it from On all sites to On click), or just remove it from Chrome. The security incident https://thehackernews.com/2024/12/16-chrome-extensions-hacked-exposing.html compromised this extension. Many users got their sessions stolen from sites like Facebook because of this. As many use sites like this as online identifiers to log onto other sites this incident was a high risk security breach. I know the developer took action but there are some things that could've been managed better from their part: - Right after pushing the update to a clean version of the extension you should've warned all users about the potential breach pointing them to the correct steps to take to protect their data and their online identity. - In the What we've done of their blog post (https://readermode.io/blog/articles/reader-mode-security-incident-what-happened-and-our-response) the dev posted this point: "Multi-factor authentication (MFA) has been enabled across all accounts". Does this mean that MFA wasn't enabled for accessing their Chrome Web Store account? If so this is terrible security practice. I understand that phishing is a huge problem, and that anyone could have fallen for a well crafted email impersonating the Chrome Web Store, but the dev should've taken responsibility and warned the extension users ASAP via a popup or message with the next update. Instead, the dev said nothing, and many people that have gotten their online sessions stolen have still no idea today about the huge security breach and the risk this may bring to their affected accounts. The extension was useful, but the handling of information flow after this breach made me take the decision to remove it. I hope the developer learns from this situation. Communication is extremely important after something like this happens, a vivid example was the LasPass breach, something that ended up costing millions of customers to the once recommended product.
This plugin downloaded a trojan to my computer, then i removed the plugin and it added itself back to my chrome
I am sorry but i liked this plugin because it's quiet. The pop up and new features are unnecessary for me. I think an opt-in approach would be better.
Unnecessary update adds features that get in the way and, at least in my case, actively slow down the performance of my browser. Zero need to fix what wasn't broken.
latest update sucks
Wit the latest update this turned into an annoying extension that inserts a custom context menu when highlighting text. This borders on being malware. One of the buttons in the context menu is for sharing on twitter. Out of all sites on the web they chose the fascist hell hole smh...
In Windows defender reported as carrying a trojan virus. False flag or not, the grey territory means this is a total no go for me be it only spyware, bloatware, whatever. Trojan:JS/Malgent!MSR in safe-browsing.js. Threat level: Severe.
I don't recall downloading this extension... And now it wants me to update it? Suspicious - removed.
Doesn't work and laden with spyware.
Spyware contacted a domain that was not allowed by my IT dept
Garbage spyware. It was good, but they ruined it.
Scam plugin. Recently updated with a change to commit advertising click fraud via and call it a "carbon emission offset". Definitely creative I'll give them that.
This extension is a scam. Whenever I visit an e-commerce site in India, it opens a new tab that redirects me to the same site with affiliate links. It was really challenging to identify the problem, and I had to reset Chrome multiple times and try various security tools like Malwarebytes. I never expected an app with 200K users, which seemed innocent and was featured on Chrome, to be responsible. After uninstalling it, I finally found some peace of mind.
Constant pop-ups asking to acknowledge that the makers plant trees. Pop-ups continue to show up even if you hit "don't show again"; 5 pop-ups a day for the past week. There is no option to disable pop-ups. Deleted and moving on to another extension.
Malware that keeps popping up even if you uninstall it and darkens your screen with useless popups.
Used to be great. Then I started getting popups to enable "eco mode" (read: open popup ads to earn money). Even if this is ostensibly money being collected for a good cause, I don't want this clutter in my browser. Uninstalled.
aCtIvate ThE nEw EcO-mOdE WHeRE we'LL pLANt TReES at NO cosT To You. Yeah no. I got your extension for one reason and one reason alone. I don't need you guys to force darken my screen and shove a pop up on my face. Off to another extension. Bye.
Browser extension that create pop-ups, particularly ad pop-ups, are an instant no-go in my book. Plant your trees, but don't fill my browser with needless extra fluff.
It was a mediocre extension, but I kept it installed because it wasn't totally useless. However, today it started showing pop-ups with the text: "Reader Mode" / "π³ Activate the new Eco-mode feature where we'll plant trees at no cost to you. Learn more" The pop-ups appear on most, but not all, pages. I didn't give permission to show pop-ups. I will report this extension for abuse and uninstall it ASAP.
Possibly a malicious extension. Injects a few javascripts with very suspicious purpose, "redirectcheck.js" and "injection.js", which were detected by spam in the console logs. Redirect script contents possibly explains occurrences of redirection reported in other reviews.
It's spyware - it sends URLs you visit with your unique user ID as "statistics", even when not using the reader mode extension. Example data which is encrypted for obfuscation: [{"fileDate":"2024-05-02T10:56:39.061Z","deviceTimestamp":1714647399.061,"userId":"4da4940a-f6af-4092-8f24-e14fb6cc524f ","targetUrl":"https://www.amazon.com/","requestType":"GET"}]
!!! MALWARE ALERT !!! ################## DO NOT INSTALL THIS EXTENSION ################## Every time you visit any Amazon related website (amazon.com, primevideo.com etc.), it redirects you to a website this website: linkhaitao. It is trying to make you download some viruses...
Full of malware and adwares...
For a while this has included malware that steals affiliate commissions by opening a new tab with their own affiliate referrals whenever you open a website like amazon or nike. Took me a while to figure out which extension was rogue but finally found it in the source code, the service worker downloads a list of domains for which this extension will steal commissions from https://storage.googleapis.com/impacthero-bucket/merchants-reader-mode.json
Used to be a excellent app. Now it includes malware that redirects you to impacthero.co without your permission.
Opens random links that are detected as adware, malicious links. Like how many others are complaining. The author is explaining how it's a good feature and it's opt out and whatnot - but I'm not going to trust links that are detected as malicious by multiple sources. Man who even wants a feature that opens tabs and links very randomly???? This should be removed from the store.
This extension surreptitiously added a "feature" on 3/17/24 that uses its 300,000 users to unwittingly steal money from Amazon, Walmart, and other vendors, as well as from untold numbers of legitimate advertisers/participants in Amazon Associates and similar programs. They claim this feature "demonstrate[s] to our partners that the generated traffic originates from our user community willing to do good." This is a lie and is in violation of the terms and conditions of Amazon Associates and similar programs. The traffic is not generated by the user, and certainly not willingly, but by the extension, without most users' knowledge or permission. The extension's privacy disclaimers say this extension is "Not being used or transferred for purposes that are unrelated to the item's core functionality." This is another falsehood. Using its users to unwittingly help them commit massive criminal fraud is not related to the extension's core functionality of removing clutter from web pages. After I spent two weeks searching for the cause of what appeared to be a virus, and seeking and employing various workaround solutions to prevent it from performing its malicious intent, the extension finally disclosed its new "feature" and said there was a setting to turn it off. I could not find that setting, but even if there is one, there is no way for me to disable it for the hundreds of thousands of users who have it enabled without understanding or caring about it who may click on one of my legitimate Amazon Associates links only to have it overridden by Reader Mode's hidden and illegal Amazon Associates ID, thereby stealing my honestly earned commissions. This is fraud and I am reporting it to Amazon as well as the Department of Justice. UPDATE in response to Ryzal Yusoff's reply: First of all, I still cannot find any option to turn off this so-called "optional feature." Secondly, the "consent" popup didn't appear until fourteen days after I first noticed the Impact Hero tabs. It did not have a button requiring the user to consent so it is not a consent popup, merely an informational message that was too large to fit on my screen and didn't have scroll bar and alleges the feature can be disabled but I have not found a way to do so. Thirdly, if you click on a legitimate Amazon Associates link, the Impact Hero tab pops up AFTER the Amazon tab. It ABSOLUTLEY overrides the legitimate Associate link. Regardless, Amazon's policies clearly state: "You will not use any Program Content or Special Link, or otherwise link to an Amazon Site, on or in connection with: (a) any client-side software application (e.g., a browser plug-in, helper object, toolbar, extension, component, or any other application executable or installable by an end user) on any device." BOTTOM LINE: There are only two possibilities here. (A) Ryzal Yusoff is an honest person who is simply as naΓ―ve as his replies make him appear to be, in which case, as a decent person, he would immediately REMOVE THE MALWARE FROM THIS EXTENSION upon learning of his mistake; OR (B) Ryzal Yusoff is a 100% dishonest person, in which case there is zero chance that the revenues generated from this scam are going to any planet-friendly tree-planting initiative.
If you don't want to participate, you can simply turn this off in the Settings > Reader Mode for Good I HAVE turn off BUT IT STILL HEREοΌ
This extension is misbehaving by opening multiple affiliate links in the background to "Impact hero" and Samsung.
This new "feature" should be opt in. I was considering Pro/Premium but I will be reconsidering given this dodgy behaviour. Will reconsider my rating when this issue is fixed. You've shot yourself in the foot here I hope you understand what you've done. The extension is good otherwise, usually works well.
This extension was fantastic until it started silently opening up affiliate links quietly in the background. No 'Impact Hero' stuff either like others have reported, these are pop ups for shopping sites like Amazon and Aliexpress, and many others through Kelkoo (a UK based price comparison website that no one has used in about 20 years). I already use affiliate links that help charities on sites I buy from, so this is literally stealing money from charity. Appalling behaviour. It's not like it's subtle, either, this happens most times I visit these sites. Reported as malware. EDIT: In response to the comment below, I can confirm that disabling the ridiculous 'affiliate link cookie stuffing to change the climate' feature did immediately stop the pop ups. It is not another extension. I even tried disabling all other extensions and only keeping Reader Mode and, yes, more affiliate links. If you'd just be honest about it then people wouldn't be so angry.
"impacthero" popups started appearing as well as MALWARE LINKS. I did not agree to any of this. This extension is MALWARE
I truly don't even remember adding this extension, and didn't know I had it, until ImpactHero.co links started opening at random when browsing the web. Some study led me to discover that this extension was the cause. Removed the extension.
With all the fresh popups and new tabs getting opened by this, regardless of the reasoning, I'm removing it. I don't want to be forced to drive traffic to another site. I have seen replies about understanding trust is earned, and you have lost all trust with a lot of people because you are forcing another tab to open to direct traffic where you want it, again, regardless of the reasoning.
This was great until it recently started spamming with a popup impacthero tab.
I use this tool, but can browsing with reader mode.
Works ok, most of the time. But.... I installed Adguard Home today. This extension made 1400 DNS requests for "id.sclpfybn.com" in the space of just 40 minutes. Not acceptable behaviour. Removed the extension from Edge straight away and blocked the domain.
I tried to use this extension on a website that keeps flickering every few seconds (obviously using javascript). Unfortunately the "read mode" page also flickers in the same frequency, which makes it unusable.
It is a false advertisement in description saying a free web reader, the only feature they should have had for free is the language that should been a free feature an I'm just trying it out now an having issues with the language it says gb english but the page I'm trying to read is not one bit readable it's all in a different language an gb english with my knowledge that should been readable since they are english still like I am, website was also in english before I clicked the extension to bypass the paywall of the site an since I'm not a pro or premium I just play around with the language on the extension to fix the issue. I know nothing of coding an all of that jumbo to go through the site with inspect an fix it.
Esc key does not close the Reader, and it's a limited version restricted by a paywall.
