Dictation for Gmail

Very glitchy. Doesn't follow or use common dictation commands such as "new paragraph" or "new line" with any consistency. Adds extra lines to emails. Takes a few seconds to kick in and often misses the first word spoke. Dragon was my gold standard in our electronic medical records and this product fails miserably compared with that.

It was very glitchy from the start - jumping insertion point, wouldn't add punctuation, etc - but then it somehow disabled my microphone on Google search. I've worked for two days to fix the microphone issue, to no avail.

Insists on inserting a new line every time turned on, won't start dictating in the middle of an email.

What a piece of garbage. For being a trillion dollar company you would think they could do better. Maybe they are paying their CEO's too much!

I put this extension on my Mac but there's no microphone in Gmail. It's not working...any suggestions?

I used to use this all the time on my Windows 10 PC, but it doesn't work on the new Windows 11 PC. I get the microphone icon, and the permissions are correct, and the microphone on the computer isn't disabled, but when I talk I get nada for the transcription.

PLEASE FIX!!! I use this daily and not having this option is killing me.

The button on the Gmail composing screen stopped appearing yesterday!!! Tried everything deleting and reloading extension. microphone permission, etc. no red button????? Running Windows 11 on a new Lenovo laptop with all drivers and Windows updates. HELP

It doesn't work for me. As soon as I click the mic icon it says "An error occurred". I looked at my browser and site settings and my sound settings, and everything is good. Other programs are able to access my mic just fine. If you had written a more descriptive error message into the code, maybe I could help you figure out where the problem is, since it apparently works for many people but fails for some. I'm running Brave browser on Ubuntu Linux 22.04 in case that helps.

Can't get this to work...is it possibly because I'm using it with the Brave Browser? The microphone shows up but says it an error every time...

this stopped working on my Gmail a month ago and I can't fix it. Tried signing in and out and resetting everything . Permissions were given for my microphone. please help! I will improve the rating if you get this working

Never worked. Kept getting the "Error: An error has occurred.Dismiss". No troubleshooting help available.

Useless. It doesn't seem to be able to complete a single sentence clearly spoken in standard British English without mishearing several words. Useless. Constantly having to correct the mistakes would take longer than typing.

Hello, This tool is a great idea! I am able to get the microphone icon on my email but it wont dictate what I say when I click it. Can you fix this?

Worse than useless because of the time wasted making corrections. If googledocs can do it reasonably competently (apart from capitalization, semi-functional voice commands, etc), why not gmail? Abysmal advert for google technology.

I guess despite this being advertised as a great dictation app for gmail talk and text, it is not showing up as an option beside the "send" button as advertised. Might be a Google issue but really folks? Now I have to get it off my computer. So frustrating

Great at dictation. However, when installed, I can't print any of my emails. Please fix and I'll change my review.

Okay, since I cannot get it to work I suppose I cannot actually hate it. Win 10. Used to work really well, but after a hiatus of a few months, I re-installed it again, on my GMail program where I really need it, and I cannot get a word out of it. Microphone is ICE Snowball Blue. Help!

UPDATE This now types gibberish, random nonsense non-words> "The boy ran to the library", repeated 3 times became, "boyuk viber kakoy n viber qaboy ayan tvo viber" I have the extension installed but will disable it permanently after I do this review. I dictated this review with the accessibility voice-to-text feature of Chrome OS, (which has its own problems). I've tried this extension 3 times on my Chromebook. This extension is unsupported and has not been updated since 2019, so not a COVID consequence.

I just added this extension and tried to use it in gmail. There's no microphone icon. Next to the usual blue Send box, is another blue box (w/ no text), and another blue Send box next to that. When I put my cursor over the middle blue box, thinking maybe that's the microphone, the buttons all started shaking, for lack of a better word. So I tried clicking on the middle blue button and got an error message that I need to add a receipient. Not sure why I'm not seeing the microphone. Any ideas? I've tried closing Chrome and reopening it, still with no luck. Thanks for your help!

Runs incredibly slow and crashes on my Chromebook. I wonder what's going on? Could it be the latest Chrome OS update? Is my Chromebook getting too old? This app is so critical to my livelihood! I've noticed that the microphone icon looks different....If I pause for a short time an error message shows up. "An error has occurred". This happens a few seconds after stop speaking.

Tried this as a last resort because I could not find the extension that I had been using, which disappeared from my Chromebook, and which worked very well. Not updated since 2016 is a disappointment, because it works somewhat, however with the glitches reported by others. October 2019 Tried it again. The icon changes colour when I switch between Gmail and other tabs, but no response. Checked permissions and that the microphone is working. Everything looks okay, but nothing happens, as for another user who posted in Support. Chromebook.

Initially works good for a few sentences, but then stops working long term. It teases you with something potentially amazing, but then is disappointing.

Compared to dictation in Google Docs, this app rates a zero. Many have pointed out the flaws. Repeated stops. No caps on sentence. After a stop, a new sentence will jump to the top of the email. The plague of the purple mic which repeatedly pops up. This app is a useless piece of crap. If I have a long email to send, I dictate into Docs and then copy/paste into gmail. Joe Prospero

Didn't work w/ Gmail after installing. Does it require a reboot? Didn't tell me that. Bummer.

It won't pick up where you move the cursor which is a major problem. If you want to start a new paragraph with your cursor then start dictating it adds it onto the previous paragraph. Please fix! It also won't take punctuation. It also only takes a few words then stops and the only workaround I"ve found so far is to stop it then restart but then it's a crapshoot as to where you text will show up. also the mic sometimes turns purple, what does this mean?

Amazing tool. But microphone just disappeared! Looking forward to the patch. Will change the star rating to a 4 or 5 when patch fixes the issue :)

Not a very effective dictation program. Very poor compared to Dragon Naturally. Constantly showing error messages. Often simply no response to voice dictation. Lots of bugs. Needs continued development.

i love the idea but when i downloaded the icon never appeared on my gmail for me to use???

Works well some of the time but often the mic just doesn't respond (goes purple from red). Then I have to use another Chrome app, Voice Note II, which works better and more reliably. The other issues of punctuation and caps are minor compared to this issue with it just stopping/not working. This problem makes it mostly useless. If this were fixed it would be a 4-5 star extension.

Nice idea but implementation, stops often in dictation and when you restart it jumps to the beginning of the document and starts adding words.
