Description

This extension stops YouTube HTML5 and Flash players from auto-buffering videos. Using this add-on (extension) you can save bandwidth and also prevent YouTube on multiple tabs from buffering media simultaneously. You will have to click on the player to allow buffering of the media files. Once a player is buffered, it can play multiple tracks. There is no need to activate the player on each new track (so you can easily watch playlists for instance). Features: 1. Stop auto-playing on "/watch?v=" pages 2. Stop auto-playing on "/user/" pages 3. Stop auto-playing on "/channel/" pages 4. Stop auto-playing on embedded YouTube players. 5. Supports YouTube's new Material Design (as of version 0.2.2) Notes: 1. As of version 0.2.4, this extension is compatible with YouTube's material design 2. As of version 0.2.5, this extension is not working on the old non-material design 3. If you would like the extension to not stop buffering when switching back and forth to the mini-player ("i" keyword on YouTube pages), go to the options page and check "Do not stop the player if the player is already playing" option. 4. This extension is compatible with ad-blocker extensions operating on YouTube pages.

It didn't get it working and buffering stills on and the video keeps stopping.

Doesn't work at all as of August 13 2023. Opera browser (chromium-based; manifest v2). I wish there were a way to upload logs, used extensions, and settings as part of a review. Are there any known incompatibilities? I'm not using any VPN or proxy, but I am using multiple ad blockers on YouTube (one for video ads and one for the rest).

Does not currently work as it has in the past. One setting DOES work, and that is flipping "pause the player instead of stopping it" to off, however this both messes with video loading and kills the loop setting being on by default on shorts and such, in addition to making the page itself reload like twice when initially tabbing to it.

It simply does NOT work! So be careful if using limited data and think you are safer! ...helpful hint! Click pause, then click near end of vid! And read/copy what you need with minimal buffering... but obviously a little data will still be wasted.

Does not work properly. Options menu jumps like a Texas horse. There is no a chance to select something and save. Verdict is a raw , alpha version, without Quality Assurance verification.

Didn't work. Youtube videos still buffering/playing automatically

The extension used to block the video from playing automatically when opening a video. Now it is opening an web page something like this: webextension.org (creator of the extension) when the extension is updated. Wish the creator stopped that. Uninstalled it, installed an tab auto closer: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tabs-auto-close/mbodbfopnnihkmkhcojmieknngpcalhf, and added it to my list.

Was good but the recent black-screen problem is a big issue. hope it gets fixed as soon as possible.

It works extremely inconsistently. Sometimes it forces me to press play twice, sometimes it doesn't even pause.

There's still autoplay in playlists.

Great idea, this extension is badly needed, autoplay so often ruins the video experience. When I watch a YouTube video I let it play once through first so it is fully buffered, because my connection isn't great (Australian NBN = rubbish), so otherwise the video will stop repeatedly to buffer while watching... but that's pointless when the video is on a playlist, because it will just continue to the next video, and when I go back to the one I wanted to watch, it will again stop repeatedly to buffer. @#$@Y%#U. I can't believe Google doesn't have an "auto-play off" setting for playlists. So I got very excited when I saw there was an extension to kill autoplay. Unfortunately it doesn't work, at least in my Chrome browser. Does anyone know if it works in other browsers? If so I might just get rid of Chrome. I just don't want to waste time installing & trying out different browser if it just simply doesn't work on any

I've been using it for years, but recently it has just stopped doing the job :(

Does not work. This extension attempted to drop to the lowest resolutions possible but still buffers while videos playing.

It certainly does not stop videos from auto-playing on my Apple Mac. Is that not the point?

At first it was not bad, though often the vid starts, then the page reloads and then it stops buffering. Yes, even this can kill bandwidth for those of us on metered connections. Also often the comments and other sections of the page do not load. But lately, the past few days it barely works at all -- most of the time the vid is playing in totally white page, and cannot be stopped, after a few minutes it may or MAY NOT reload the page/player and stop the buffering. Something broke it seems.

It still works on Chrome, but recently every video now starts with a black screen instead of a paused thumbnail and play button. Clicking the black screen starts playing the video normally, so the thumbnail and play button are still there, you just can't see them anymore. Please fix!

Doesn't work on https://www.youtube.com/@Katimorton. FYI, https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/stop-autoplay-for-youtube/figkapeodjhdgnpiamleongcmecfjccb does work on it. So use both to be safe.

Stops the video instead of pausing it, although "Pause the player instead of stopping it" is activated. Also plays 1 second of the video before stopping it.

Give us an option so that we can stop buffering a running video. it initially stops buffer but after I play the video the buffer can't be stopped, I have to close tab to save my data (Band width). My point is, I want to stop buffering and stay in the tab (without closing it)

Only works for any Youtube Video that's after the first Youtube Video you play in the same tab. In other words. If you open up a Youtube Video in a background tab, then focus on that background tab, that Youtube Video will automatically start playing even with this app. But any video you open in that same tab will be stopped from autoplaying. So it works, but it has a flaw that can be irritating for anyone who opens many Youtube Videos in background tabs, and need to look through all the tabs to find the one video you want to see. As all those tabs would autoplay the video before you could pause it and move on to the next tab.
