Description
This tiny and lightweight extension provides ability to quickly preview links without leaving the current page context. It adds entry in context menu of links, and when clicked, opens new small window at cursor position, with no tab bar and address bar.
Features:
● Open images and search selected text in popup window
● Use Shift + Click to open in popup window
● Use drag and drop on empty space to open in popup window (disabled by default)
● Configurable popup height, width and default position on the screen
● Close popup window when regular window regains focus
● Automatically reopen new single tab windows and tabs opened by page as popup windows
● Remember popup window size on manual resize
● Customizable keyboard hotkeys
This extension is intended to be used as an analogue of Safari Link Preview, Arc Peek or Zen Glance. It's a great way to preview links, which works everywhere and is not affected by the CORS problem like extensions which are using iframe element for link preview.
⚠️ If "Open by drag" and "Shift+click to open" options are not working, or the popup window always gets positioned in the top left corner disregarding the settings, please make sure you gave extension permission to run on every page, and that current page is not restricted from access by extensions (for example, chrome://* pages)
🛡️ Privacy:
This extension doesn't collect any private data. It's fully open source, and you can see the code on Github: https://github.com/emvaized/open-in-popup-window-extension
It requires access to your tabs in order to fetch information about the object under cursor when drag and drop event occured or context menu was opened.

Just a few websites that work. Most shift + click refuse connection through this extension. That is not good. Lots of work to do.

Open link in popup window works great! My main scenario is using to open tab as popup, for this it also works, but not ideal user case: the extension clones a tab as a popup by a keyboard shortcut and can merge it back to its original window by another shortcut. All works nice and fast, but after merging you end up with two copies of the same tab, this gets cumbersome quickly. I prefer to work with one tab, which can be popped up or merged back, so I ended up using this "popup-window" extension: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/popup-window/nnlippelgfbglbhiccffmnmlnhmbjjpe
