Had it for a few months now, approaching a year. Started lagging my PC harder than actual malware, and that isn't a joke or an exaggeration. Could ignore that if it weren't for the fact it A. takes 30% of the 2 million USD it has earned for charities and gives it to itself, and mentions this in one lone place, the fine print. The site needs upkeep, the people need to be payed, but 600k?? B. Gamification, and corruption. They've added multiple different small updates since I first joined this, one of which is browser games you can play to earn "hearts" the same thing you get for opening a new tab. These translate to individual cents, which you can give to individual charities - but no, that "heart" you donated just sends a message saying "increase the donations to This Charity" meaning you have nearly no impact on what charities get how much. Instead, everybody involveds' vote splits it between the different charities. You, as a person, have little to no impact - while if I recall correctly, it says that You as a *single* person can have an impact in the description. C. Overstretching. It has too many charities. If you give someone 5 USD and 5 homeless people to donate it to, either they'll split it evenly, and nobody will be grateful, or they'll give it all to one person and feel bad about it. If the charities are getting money in the first place, then they're certainly not getting much D. Not the final nail in the coffin, but moreso the final shovelful of dirt on the grave, a collection of minor feedbacks: User interface downgrade, the ability to donate to political charities, difficulty swapping between focused causes, and the sub-addon, search for a cause, being based off yahoo search, even though I told it to be based on google search (yahoo search has pretty much only adverts for the first 6 pages, I counted) It's a good enough addon, but I think I've looked a gift horse in the mouth and found teeth. Either that or I should have been more suspicious at first. This is actually, unironically, too good of an idea to be true

The new UI is inconvenient, strangely formatted, and not at all visually appealing. Instead of having bookmarks appear as buttons in the center you can instantly press, you have to open a submenu. Instead of having a visible and central search bar as the focal point, it's shoved into a corner. Its downscaled size means you can only see around 4 words at a time while typing. Not to mention, now you see more of the ads than the actual home page content, and they are framed so strangely. Everything you do to interact with the tab is shoved into the top left corner, meanwhile the right side of the screen has two ads, and the bottom of the screen has an ad as well. The center is left empty aside from an unnecessary clock (there's a clock on the bottom right of every pc screen...) Hello? I'm in my browser to search, not to look at mediocre attempts at aesthetic appeal with some ads for extra glamour.

I would advise everyone to avoid as they haven't been fully transparent and open about financials in the year of 2023 and now 2024. Already disabled the extension as this is very misleading and harmful.

this would be so perfect, a very useful and great idea, if it didn't log me out every single day.

breaks every tab I open now. looks like they haven't bothered to update it in years to keep up with chrome. I'm looking else where's for a better tab. I highly doubt this this ever supported anything anyway.

I used to really like this extension back when the bookmarks were far more customization. Now I have an incredibly generic looking page, all my bookmarks in tiny boxes on the left side of my screen, little differentiation between them other, and it just sucks. I kept using it because it felt like i was doing the right thing but there was never an update that allowed for a better user experience. I'm tired of using this thing.

Keeps redirecting me to fake microsoft websites telling me I'm infected and wants me to download their malware, every time that I open a new tab.

Was perfectly fine before the update completely gutted the new-tab customization. Gave it a few months to update (after the dev promised it would happen), never happened. Bye bye.

It used to be 5/5 but now with the new update it's useless. I have to scroll down a list of bookmarks that's not alphabetized hunting for my bookmark when it's faster and easier to type it in. Plus it doesn't let you choose your charity anymore and looks plain and dull i'm thinking about uninstalling it, besides they only give 30% to charity. They could at least listen to the reviews and people and give the old version as an option like youtube does. I have been using this extension for 2 years and this update ruined it for me.

Can “You” Not

The original format was just so much better and now there's far less functionality but also takes far longer to load - how can someone sane have created this new version and told not only themselves, not only the people around them but also us, the people using the plugin to generate money for charities, that this is better?

Go back to the original format please.

This was an amazing app that I've been using for years. The UI was by far the reason I stayed, although I loved being able to contribute to charity in the process. The newest UI update has ruined it for me and I'm already looking for alternative options, unless I get a way to roll Tab back to how is was before I will be leaving to find an option as close to the old format as possible.

I love tab for a cause and i always try to badger my friends into downloading it because 1.0 the customizable interface was really cool and 2.) its for charity!!! C'mon! I completely understand why they changed it. People with slower computers would have problems loading the tab. But this update is a huge step down in my opinion. I have accidentally deleted many bookmarks because the (X) button to delete does not show up unless you hold your mouse over the bookmark for a moment, BUT you can still click it when it is invisible. I completely understand the design idea for this update, and I really support keeping it around for people who want this but aren't running on beefy computers or who just like the minimalistic look. But please bring back the old layout as an option!

Ive been using this plugin for a few months and actually prefered it over the google frequent pages for its simplicity. Now theyve essentially removed what attracted me and others to use this. Expect to lose many users and lots of donations to good charities if you dont fix this!

I used to love this plugin until today. Not only did it generate money for charity but it made navigating to my favorite sites extremely easy. But the new update ruined all of that. For starters i cant create an exception for my adblocker, so no more clean water for little Abebe. But more importantly they ruined the interface. Now instead of having neatly organised bookmarks, i now have a clock and a whole bunch of wasted space. The simple and readable bookmarks of the previous version have been replaced by tiny little indistinguishable transparent boxes in the corner of the screen. I cant use Tab for a Cause anymore because the interface is so bad. Pls fix

I've used this extension for probably 3+ years, until today. It has a great concept: grin and bear a few unobtrusive advertisements to generate a small bit of revenue which is eventually donated to a charity of your choice. Well, the first thing that went was "unobtrusive". Malicious advertisements redirected my browser to spammy websites... video adverts would blare their sales pitch at deafening levels... I eventually had to get an adblocker. I should have uninstalled it then, but I didn't. I loved the UI so, so much. Now the last thing keeping me subscribed to Tab for a Cause has finally died. I used to be able to organize and customize my bookmarks. Now, they have been transformed into sterile gray boxes relegated to a laughably small scrolling task bar that takes up a quarter of the screen. Rest in peace, Tab for a Cause. It's been a good three years.

There have been problems that have been around at least since the beginning of the year, and people have mentioned it, but nothing has been done about it. I used to love this extension. It was super easy and a cool way to donate a tiny bit through charity while doing my normal things. However, I (and many others) can't seem to donate anymore, so I'm not sure what the point of having it is. I can't donate any hearts that I've gathered, nor can I change the links that I put on my home page over a year ago. It seems to let me do it, but then when I open a new tab, it returns to the old version. All my 500 hearts (plus one) come back, and any links I have changed (and that I triple checked that I had saved) revert to how they used to be. I tried removing and re-adding to Chrome, but it brought back the same customized page I had. If I can't donate the hearts, there's no point in having this add on, and I'm probably going to delete it soon, since it's not benefiting anyone but the people who make the ads this way. I'll keep it for at least a few more weeks, and if it gets fixed, I'll change the review to a positive one, but as it is, this extension is basically useless and not worth getting.

The new tab page is now a slow-to-load add filled page, instead of the normal chrome new tab page. If they just put a little thing at the side of the normal new tab page, it would be *so* much better.

I like the idea of this and I have been using it for a long time but now each time I open a new tab it literally spikes my CPU. I am not sure if it is bug or badly written code but I can't have my CPU running on each time I open a tab. Fix it and I will gladly return.

I have used it for several years and appreciated it. The past 2 months however my security software has started to flag it as suspicious connections trying to connect each time I open a new tab. Due to this I will be removing the extension since I no longer think that they are working with companies that are maintaining a degree of data protection :(

Awesome app giving out to charity for doing something so simple on your computer. However, it's a blank, black screen for me after I switched to classic mode. It used to have beautiful backgrounds with customizable options. I uninstalled and reinstalled. That black screen is default? There are no options or buttons to change it. I can't even go into the settings like before. I've had this extension for years and had never experienced this.

There is no way to tell if this extension is actually earning any money from my using it. The newtab page loads from their website and the ads load from it. I usually navigate away from new tabs long before all that loads, so the ads don't actually display.

Tabs for a Cause is great in concept but completely falls apart when it comes time to donate the hearts you've collected. Nearly every charity on this extension is either ineffective or flat-out bad. Conservation International is yet another faulty environmental organization, the Human Rights Watch may have biases, GiveDirectly's method of combating poverty is inefficient, Water.org hasn't had any high-profile scandals yet but the long-term impacts of its methods may be bad, and the Foundation to Decrease Worldsuck is literally fueled by YouTubers who really aren't the group of people I'd go to to freely select reputable and genuinely helpful charities. I could go on but I feel like this list makes my point. If the creators can't make it so that users can select the charities they want to donate to then I'd sincerely recommend that they either research the organizations they select themselves or approach activists, researchers, or really anyone who's familiar with major social/political issues for help with selecting who to donate to.

I'm using a Chromebook with DuckDuckGo as my search engine, and multiple times a day I need to sign in. I have no use in having this extension if I need to sign in practically every time I open a tab to donate.

I know this is a bit late but... I used to love using this, and customising my pages, plus donating to charities. But I have to be honest, I stopped using this since Dec. 6th when they updated it. There's also a problem I don't know if it's only for me but it logs me out of my account every time I open a new tab. What happened to the old format, where you could move around things, have multiple pages with bookmarks and notes, and all that other stuff like having google calendar? I hate having everything on the side, where I have to scroll down and everything is the same size. I wish you guys would go back to the old design.

I have been using this extension, and I really loved it!!! But I actually liked the one before the newest update... I dont like it now... (sorry..) The reason why I liked the older version is because your were able to design the page more easier, and it was way better to use! Now, it is just at the corner, and.. well, what I want to say is, the older version is easier to use and is better :) Please fix it :) Thank you :D
