Doesn't work on anything I've tried so far (Discord, Reddit)
does exactly nothing
It does not work for me.
Why is this even allowed to eexist on google's app store? They are supposed to vet the apps. This thing doesn't do anything whatsoever.
does not work on discord.com
does not work
It stopped working, so.... how is that useful?
Didn't work at all for me
THIS EXTENSION IS TOTALLY USELESS. BAN THIS DEVELOPER.
Extension is garbage. It does stop the animation, but as soon as you scroll the page you get to the next animation that has already restarted. Then you can scroll up and down and watch the animations continually restart and stop. More distracting than clicking on the "loop" button.
Seems to do nothing at all. Escape has no effect - adverts continue to flash away.
Does absolutely nothing!
Straight up doesn't work. The escape key does nothing.
Doesn't block animated GIFs on NYT site
couldnt even open it
its useless im sooo FU*KING MAD it gave me a virus and its stupid i hate it DONT DOWNLOAD
does not reduce cpu usage!
it does not work, i use windows 7 and chrome
It doesn't work...
Doesn't work at all for Google+ animated GIFs.
it dose nothing
Doesn't work. Stops animations temporarily, but they start up again if you scroll.
Blurs text. Whole point is to stop animations so I can read the page comfortably. Failed at that.
Doesn't work
Re-enables when I click anywhere on the web page. Also, there's a lag when scrolling as all the gifs step thru their animation.
It didn't work at all. I'm playing a web game.. and still the animations are playing... https://www.r2games.com
I want to like this but I find it problematic that after stopping the animation, if I scroll the page, the animation starts again – motion is problematic for me as it causes vestibular events. Please let the user control when animation starts again.
Doesn't work Pressing esc does nothing, clicking 'stop animations' goes to the extension page on google store.
This extension takes a screenshot of the page to stop gifs. A screenshot is not they way to tackle this. It doesn't let you select text, it clashes with extensions like hoverzoom, it hides the screenshot on scroll.. I appreciate the effort but a better way would be finding all .gif images and replace with a canvas generated frame, keeping everything else in place.
I agree previous commenter: "The animation starts again while you you scroll. Also it doesn't reduce the CPU consumption."
It didn't work for me at all in Chrome 34. I sure hope the author updates it, because the inability to stop animations in Chrome can be maddening!
works strangely, when you scroll it keeps animation until you stop scrolling.
GO GET THIS ONE INSTEAD!!!! - "Animation Policy" google chrome extension does what this is trying to do.
It does exactly what it says it does. Easy-peasy. BUT the thing that cuts the usefulness half is the fact that as soon as you scroll, it stops its function and everything on the page moves again. I'm not a programmer. So, I'm ignorant to just how difficult it actually might be to fix that. But OMG, I really wish I could scroll through a frozen page.
I wanted to try this because it's exactly what I need.... but unfortunately it is set to ONLY work with the ESC key, and I already have the ESC key set to close the tab I'm in. Naturally I went to open the options page thinking I'll just change the key that's assigned for THIS app to work, but apparently "options" doesn't exist. So if you use your ESC key for anything else keep searching gor the extension you need.
The animation starts again while you you scroll. Also it doesn't reduce the CPU consumption.
Works - sort of - but the gif keeps playing a little while after pressing ESC, and then jumps back. SOmetimes also the gif breaks down and there's the "image unavailable" icon instead.
The first gif stopper that actually worked (maybe because those gif avatars have no .gif extension), but need to press Asc every time, and they start moving again as I scroll (stop again after I stop scrolling). I just want them to never move in the first place, that's all.
Not perfect, but works.
While it does stop the animations when you press Esc, doing almost anything re-enables them. If you scroll, they animate for each movement of the scroll wheel. Click on something and they restart. Pressing Esc again to stop them may interrupt what you were trying to do when you clicked.
The screenshot process seems to make text blurry. Behaves strangely, especially wrt scrolling, when page zoom is not 100%. (Tested on Hamster Dance) Based on the description and my observations, I assume this extension doesn't remove the animated GIFs from the page when I press escape, so my computer still wastes effort animating them.
not worked with zoom != 100%
