Broken as of right now, fails to load settings and is making whole website invisible , cannot toggle off had to disable
useful add on but was making my browser extremely sluggish for whatever reason, only went back to normal after deleting
Used it and turned it off but now the web pages are dark and so are the words.
how it can be worked idk can anyone guide me
It was good at first, but later I noticed my Task Manager’s CPU usage suddenly spiking because of my browser. Upon further inspection, the underlying issue was, in fact, caused by this extension. After disabling it, my CPU usage returned to normal.
Google Maps hasn't worked in over a week. Please fix.
Not working in Google Maps
I dont know what happened but it doesn't do anything anymore even if its enabled. I have to manually override its per-site setting that disables dark reader for literally every website. Also not free and open source software, I will definitely be looking for a real alternative pronto.
Just use the built in dark mode its stupid and i am not paying for some darkness. I highly HIGHLY do not recommend
This extension is rather frustrating. Dark Reader inverts its basic setting (ON/OFF) after about one hour for most websites. Chrome just sits there and the problem appears without any interaction. Also after every restart of Google Chrome. So (almost) each website that you want in dark mode is bright again, and vice versa. Customer service won't react, even after several inquiries via email. Therefore Dark Reader is just annoying, I have to say.
Worked great for months but recently its blacking out certain text until I hover over it. Like text links, menus, calendars on specific websites. So I had to disable it unfortunately.
This breaks old.reddit.com, not sure about the new site. The search field is no longer usable, and the comments are either unreadable or the box is all white which defeats the purpose of using this, especially at night.
$10 just for this ?!! LOLL
Not working properly
I've been enjoying this extension for a long time, but I noticed that after upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11, the extension breaks my ability to use old reddit. With the extension enabled on old reddit, the buttons to create a new thread are unclickable. Hopefully this can be fixed in an update, but in the mean time, I'm forced to use a different dark mode extension.
WORST PRODUCT EVER IT DOESNT LET YOU DISABLE IT IF YOU DO IT MESSES UP THE ORIGINAL COLOR OF WEBSITES
Not good. Even when turning it off, it messes with pages. Things happen when you're messing with the controls, but as soon as you click off, things go wonky. This one needs a lot more time in the oven.
Not free, misleading. Excuse me? Can they be upfront make it as paid apps instead of mislead like this? I can straight up ignore this extension and not seeing this 'new page popup' after I install 'free extensions'.
I am so confused with this extension, I thought it's free (not trial or paid etc.) but today I downloaded this extension and got this new page saying: "Please pay for Dark Reader Today is September 19, and we're kindly asking you to complete the payment to keep Dark Reader going. For over 10 years, Dark Reader has helped millions of people with migraines, photophobia, and light sensitivity. Please make a payment now or soon after trying the app. Take part in spreading dark mode across the internet and help making the web easier on everyone's eyes." Excuse me? Can they be upfront make it as paid apps instead of mislead like this? I can straight up ignore this extension and not seeing this 'new page popup' after I install 'free extensions'.
beg more
Contains harmful malware - my PC was attacked several times while using this extension. Mind you, I have had this PC for several years without any problem
It glitches turns my screen black very frequently when turned on. I even had to restart my computer to remove this.
too busy collection donations and not fixing potential bugs... i.e., https://github.com/darkreader/darkreader/issues/14603 There's a terrible bug on "invert listed only" I have to refresh pages twice after the first load for this extension to effect on each page. For example, I added the URL: https://www.bloomberg.com on "invert listed only" Now, say I am reading this page: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-08-22/meta-to-license-ai-lab-midjourney-s-tech-in-new-partnership I have to refresh it twice for this extension to take effect or to enable dark mode on that page!! Very annoying user experience. Keeps asking for donations while major functionalities are broken, annoying. (using it brave browsers, behaves same across all chromium browsers.)
it's not worth that price.
Is fine for most content, if the content doesn't include images, or particular html code, like with google docs. It inverts images when they should not be touched for Dark Mode, making them look terrible. It has been an issue for years but never addressed. My list of excluded sites is so long it's almost useless to me as an addon and I pray for my sites to just have native dark mode functionality.
full of bugs (always different ones), and dev never responds to emails from people who do his work for him and report them (with steps to reproduce).
SHOULD NOT DEFAULT TO DARK MODE. If dark mode makes things worse for a particular website (which will OFTEN be the case), that puts the onus on users to IMMEDIATELY figure out how to disable it when they've just installed the plugin. That's a failing design defect for me. EDIT: When synchronizing settings, DOES NOT HONOR the settings it's synchronizing. E.g., installed on work machine - configured to default to non-dark mode. That setting synchronizes to other systems, but pages STILL default to dark mode. Worse than useless. Removing on all platforms.
Do I have to pay to use Darkreader? Absolutely not.
It was working quite well, but recently it's started giving me serious problems. Aside from the "Repair extension" warning everyone's talking about, the biggest problem I'm experiencing is that on sites like YouTube that already have a dark theme, the page is completely black. Text, images, videos, nothing is visible. Everything is completely black. When I click on a video, the video doesn't even appear; it's still a black screen. On some sites, the bottom of the video doesn't even appear. These problems I mentioned aren't just happening on YouTube; they're happening on almost every site with a dark theme. I'll update my rating once you fix the issues. Please take note.
Does what it says from what I can tell, but I'm not sure I trust it. Their website talks about Pie Adblock as their "partner extension", and Pie is known to be fishy.
TURNS YOUR WHOLE SITE BLACK AND ASKS YOU TO PAY ON THE EXTENSION PAGE
15$ for that? A joke.
Is it not a free, its askimg me to pay the amount
Not good. Items on a page disappear even when extension is off. When you ask for help, it wants you to pay $7.99 first.
you have to pay a subscription
Recently this app completely turns webpages black, especially video players e.g. YouTube & can't see anything. Have to reload webpage or toggle the app to work again, which is vry frustrating. @Dark Reader admin, fix this issue, it's way overdue!
makes some websites very slow. For example Vinted is awful to use with the extension ON, the lag is unbearable.
since i remove this extension now my youtube is inverted and i can t get it back to normal and now even if i install it back i get inverted screen, i can get to normala screen but for few min and it gets back to inverted , idk what to do so can anyone help me
Really buggy. 90% of the time it loads a black screen and I need to toggle the extension to get it to load properly.
Stopped working properly now???
Why can I not turn my Chrome theme to light anymore? Ever since I added Dark Reader, I can't access light mode, even if I turn Dark Reader off. Please help. I've mailed you 2 days ago and still I have not received a response.
Google Docs scroll button not working and Google Sheets features become invisible with this extension.
Disables scroll on some websites (like Google Docs)
Latest update has broken Google docs - can't scroll down with it enabled at all, and it removes loads of options from the top of the UI, as if they're stuck "scrolled" off the top of the webpage
Completely breaks Google Sheets.
Something happened in the past few months that makes it use WAY too much memory on large websites like YouTube, Reddit, Ebay, etc. and it will make the pages take a lot longer to become responsive. Very annoying. Started happening the same time as the Honey controversy, someone needs to check the commit history and see whats up.
Extension is paid, which is not disclosed up front. This company is also affiliated with Pie, an extension created by the same organization as the extremely controversial Honey. Very shady.
bug with youtube
Poor performance after installation
doesnt work
