Why would you focibly change my default search engine? And that too without my consent. People should sue you. Your purpose should be to just TTS and you are doing such a thing in background. When disabling and enabling this extension it again sets its own search engine as default which is both annoying and unacceptable. I am removing this extension rightaway.

Well first, what every one is saying about the tabs is true. But more importantly it can't read a paragraph to me with out stoping, mid sentence too. Its very annoying, I'm going to look for something else.

This extension has become malicious. Changed my search engine to a sketchy site, and by force and without user consent. Read other reviews..

This was good for a while but they pulled a fast one and started changing your browser search engine. That wasn't cool at all..

The extension was working fine, been using it for a year with no problem, very happy. However, IDK if others are experiencing the same issue, but all of the sudden, the extension is prompting me to change the search engine to coolsearch.net . I feel like this extension has been compromised.

Do not get this extension it will switch your default browser to Bing. Other than that would be a great extension but had to uninstall because of Bing.

Such a disappointment, was a great tool until it started forcing me to use some cool-search engine instead of my preferred google. Up until this point, you could just right click text and select Speak It and it would read it to you. I guess ill be looking around for another one now.

Was amazing until it just decided it wanted to force its stupid search engine on new tabs, which does not offer speech to text search options. (The main reason I open a new tab is to ask a quick question and since I am a slow typer I almost always use Google's new tab speech to text search.) When messing with a product that over 100,000 people use to read for them, you should make it optional because a lot of people who use a program to read for them are probably not the fastest typers. I don't care if it asks if you want to switch each time you use it but there should at least be an option to use another search engine. And if not provide an option to switch then at least provide your own speech to text search on your new tabs. Before this force switch happened I was a proud user of this extension and recommended it to several friends. But after this switch this extension has truly irritated me.

Update: a couple of days later, this deceitful little program disables itself and now "requires" permission to _set my search engine_ to "coolsearch.net". The extension refuses to work until such permission is granted. Wow. This is practically malware. 1 Star is too many. Original review: -------------- Excellent little program for quick one-word pronunciation checking (which is what I personally use it for). One notable glitch is that regardless of whether the Male or Female voice is selected in the menu, the voice is always male. I do appreciate that the extension rarely (so far, never) requests any access to my website information, as that access is not required to speak a highlighted word. I applaud software design that only requests the minimum permissions required to function.

Didn't work

Reads 20ish words then stops

Contains malware which changes my Google search lists. It adds about 10 generated link which leads to spamy webistes at the top.

UPDATE: 9/29/2020 [Day 1] - From 5 stars to 1 star in just under 2 years. Downgraded to one star. It should be zero. An update to the extension REQUIRES me to use Google as my toolbar search option. If you disable the option the extension is no longer available. So I changed extensions. I'm now using "Read Aloud: A Text to Speech Voice Reader" and it's as good or better than what I was using. This is looking really good so far [day one]. I've only been using it for a few minutes so that's not much of a review window but compared to everything else free, with the exception of the no longer functioning, or at least not properly, "SpeakIt!" extension. Not many voice options but I'm grateful all the same. To work I go. Thanks guys.

Was great but now you must change your default search engine from Google. I want my Google, so it's gotta go!

It functions great! But what ruins it is that it is forcing me to use a search engine I don't want.

worked pretty well until a few days ago where now it won't work the first time and i have to click the extension again for it to read out the selected text

It works only for few sentences only not even one full paragraph or a page. Developers kindly look into in this bug. Please add Hindi language for Indians.

In Russian it only reads a few words, not even a full paragraph.
