Enough digging reveals a concept, navigation and UI, but the workflow is totally broken. New users cannot save a single page even in test mode (it's meant to be 3 pages, but none are recorded), and the upgrade process sets up an account but then delivers no pricing structure or premium tools. I am now about to start the process of deleting the account; however I am concerned to read recent reviews which suggest that the developer is not complying.
No mention of a paid service up front and their airtable questionnaire doesn't even work when you uninstall. Doesn't look like it will be around long.
Please do not install this extension under any circumstances. Once you install it and create a login account, you cannot delete the account. You can send an email to request to delete your account from the app, but there is no reply. There is a chat function and the developer is online, but there is no response when you request to delete your account.
They did not delete my account 11 months after I requested it. This is both frustrating and undermines trust of their actions.
I love the app but it's crashing the google search UI, its started 1 week ago ~
I don't like Offline-first. All data is stored on your device. I want it to be synced
Not thrilled. I came in using this as one thing -- mainly open source and functional. Now all of the function is being taken out, its going closed source and I feel like that was a lot of time I'm never getting back. So, hell, it was free right? .. well, no, not really., Because now I bave a ton of invested time into a structure that never cared about any of the promises or features the user desired. Hell, I'm not sure what they're making now.. maybe it will be fun. Hang around. See if the sun rises. I'm -- out.
Memex removed the full text history search, which was the whole reason I used the app. Sadly I relied on Memex to retrieve certain information I had once browsed so now I have no way of finding these pages again.
Could you suggest a way the annotations could be rearranged? I tried but all the annotations were saved in reverse order based on time which meant the last annotation in the article comes on top and thereon. This doesnt seem to make sense and renders it useless. Also, is there no way of changing the highlight colour which is too glaring and stress-inducing...
originally reviewed as 5 stars, but they killed it. I have pretty severe memory issues, and this was great. it allowed me to find any page i had ever visited, as long as i had a general idea of what i wanted to find again, literally only needed to remember one word from the page, and it would be in the search. I also read a lot of articles about different things, and of course, i forget instantly. 6 months later, i'd think of something, and want to find that exact page again, this made it easy. they deleted that feature, it no longer indexes pages you visit. (this isnt a bug, they intentionally removed it), so this extension is now useless. all the 5 star reviews you see here are for a feature that no longer exists.
The newest version updated at June 24th seems mining at the background, it makes my fan burst and my CPU usage very high
only around 38k history detected from 60k. and the process is really slow, it's often stuck. hope there's a way to just export and import manually.
Every time I start Chrome the extension crashes. Re-Enabling does not help.
Not very useful. Doesn't do anything more than what chrome's address bar usually does (not searching the history thoroughly, no fuzzy matching). So many errors in the console which is quite annoying while I'm coding. Appends 'w' if it can't find matches and searches google with w appended which is also annoying
Handy features when it works, but very buggy. Don't count on being able to reliably import or export your bookmarks, sign in, sign out, or use features promised on the memex.garden website.
search is buggy for CJK users
There are a lot of valuable UX. But their determination to block you from using Youtube easily is so Annoying. they need to provide "X" button to close your widget screens at ALL times. You can't lock the user into your interface that does not allowyou to use anything. No idea how to close this widget. The only way is to uninstall
theres so many wrong things with this extension and app. never get fixed
The idea seems great, but this has a long way to go. I Installed the extension but I can't even get the sidebar to show up. Option-Q does nothing and not side bar is shown even though it is "enabled permanently". So I haven't been able to test it on youtube. When it comes to pdf annotations, I'd rather go for the original, i.e. hypothe.is.
5 stars all day until it stopped working 3 months ago, still not fixed. will change to 5 stars once its working again and i can get what i paid for.
Unfortunately it does not handle numbers. I remembered visiting a webpage with some phone numbers, and I remember one of the numbers, but it does not show up in search result. If I manually go over my history I can find it, and surely it is indexed. Seems like this extension does not care for number. Too bad.
It doesn't seem to be saving text of pages I view, all of my searches turn up blank.
I liked the principle of this extension as I have lost large amounts of time trying to find something I remember seeing/reading/passing-by-at-high-speed and I thought this extension would solve that in future and I've had this extension happily installed for some months now. However, the last update changed permissions to monitor (and modify, what!?!) clipboard activity as well and I think that is a step too far. It may be that the permissions are restrictive so you can't have a permission for reading OR writing, but either way it's irrelevant - recording searches and pages is one thing, monitoring my clipboard is out of the question and so I have now (somewhat reluctantly I must admit) removed this extension.
crashes
I don't like leaving reviews but this tool has potential so I'm hoping this reaches the dev. I found this tool mainly on the hunt for an app which auto-indexes all the html on sites like stackoverflow so that I can go back and ctrl+f certain key words later on (regular history doesn't do this). Memex achieves this well enough as I can just hit alt-q on any notable site. So far, I have two issues with using Memex for the scenario I've explained above: The first is that the search function seems to break down as soon as there are special characters. e.g. I can search for 'clone' but as soon as I search for '.clone()' then the whole search breaks down. Please fix! The second issue: please get out of my way! All I am wanting to do right now is press alt+q and save the page for later, I do not need any widgets popping up on the site I'm using. If it's useful for me I will slowly start looking into it over time. I also don't see a way to remove the youtube video widget so I have had to add ###__MEMEX-YOUTUBE-INTERFACE-ROOT into my ad-blocker to take it out of the html once it has already been injected in, which seems redundant.
Not able to use the shortcut anymore, not sure if there is an update or paid version.
Not working so well. 1. Importing causes google to show captcha page. 2. Imported number is greater than anticipated. 3. Search result rank is not good. 4. No duplicate page detection, different url with same content is shown twice
Sadly, their plans for this extension abruptly shifted recently, so this no longer indexes pages you visit (history). It only searches bookmarked pages and your annotations. They also are primarily focusing on "collaborations," which I have no interest. I've been following the project for several years. While this was a good idea, it seems to take them forever to make progress. And when they do, like the excellent full-text searching of visited (but not bookmarked) pages, they actually make negative progress by changing direction. In the meantime, I've found a couple of other extensions that provide similar functionality, as far as displaying visited sites/gmails on the Google search results page, which is my main reason for using it. There's also a major danger here: This doesn't automatically back up your data to Google Drive unless you pay. So you need to remember to backup your data yourself regularly or you'll lose at least your annotations if you have a major crash.
Its hard to remember its there but it does a good job when I do (remember). I have reduced by a star as there appears to be no support for it when it crashes.
Please add an in-extension search interface. Vivaldi does not yet support extension based search additions so this cannot be used there.
