Ghostery Privacy AdBlocker

Tired of pop ups? ghostery will remove them and replace them with their own pop ups to annoy you. At the same time completely nutrealizing the very reason for ad blockers and anti tracking in the first place. Great job enshitifying your extension.

This is hell. I can't load longform youtube videos. I've had to abandon 3 adblockers now!

It breaks every single site on brave. A real failure on ghostery's part.

The recipes I ask for sent to my email address, never reads as a true recipe as there aren't any measurements for the ingredients or steps on how to cook or detail about the recipe, which is crucial for making any dish. Does anyone else have this problem when asking for a specific recipe? Very frustrating as I love to cook and try new dishes.

You could just let me use it, like always... but now the software is harassing me for a review every single day. So here you go. one star for pestering me. Could have been nothing... I was... I WAS GHOSTING you..... but now you get one star. YOU get what YOU pay for.

Ghostery is or may have been hacked late today on: 1/27/2026? It is performing malicious acts while users are logged into Yahoo! Mail? Please see & read below. Norton Threat Secured We prevented your Connection to cow.huntforenenst.com because it is a dangerous webpage. Threat type: Miscellaneous - This is malicious software that could harm your data, computer, or Network. This was all stemming/coming from the Ghostery Web Extension as I just found out!! This malicious activity detected by Norton thank goodness, was suspiciously happening only while I was logged into Yahoo! Mail in which Norton blocked 36 Connection Attempts & notified me many many times over. Once I disabled each and every one of my Google Chrome Web Browser Extensions to try to get the detected Threat Alert from Norton to Stop constantly popping up in my Left Hand corner of my Screen; it did suddenly stop and all was good only until I had tested each and every Chrome Web Browser Extension by slowly re-enabling them to see which one was or may be causing this Security Alert from Norton all and only while logged into Yahoo! Mail? The turnout was then clear to me right then and there that it was and the Ghostery Web Browser Extension that is or had just been hacked or infected here late today on, 1/27/2026 because Norton has never alerted me in this way about this until just today with a whopping 36 Alerts and Connection Blocks... I am now uninstalling it from my Google Chrome Web Browser immediately for my own safety!!

app doesnt work for the single most advertised purpose: blocking ads on youtube. install was also really dumb, page keeps saying to pin the app no matter whether its pinned or not (which is in no way necessary for the app to function), and continually pesters me with popups to re-pin the app if i dont have it pinned. besides this, the app starts deactivated and then opens a tab telling you to hit a button to activate it, instead of just being toggled on and off via the plugins menu like every other plugin on chrome. i have never in my life seen a chrome plugin this convoluted with this high of ratings. sure, you *can* deactivate any plugin manually, but it seems pretty ridiculous to have it turned off by default and then open a popup asking me to enable it. if you require some kind of terms of use agreement (which i did not see anywhere) then it can still be part of the installation process or listed on the plugin description. maybe google has it out for this one specific developer, but i seriously doubt that these popups and activation requests are necessary in any way. the developer just wants to pester you with their logo so its burned into your mind or something, and in the process has made their app more annoying than the ads it purports to (but does not) block. even if this plugin functioned perfectly after obeying all of it's nonsense requests, i would still be rating it down for egregiously poor user experience and sending me popups on every tab when its supposed to be blocking them. to whoever "vibe coded" this: eat a fat putrid turd and quit developing software forever.

This thing is buggy and has to be reinstalled constantly! It used to be good, but now it's practically worthless!

Broken as of 143 chrome update for youtube, I have to keep pausing it in order for youtube to work, the latest version DOES NOT WORK ON YOUTUBE ANY MORE AND BREAKS VIDEOS.

Used to work perfectly, but it no longer works as intended as of today. Temp way around it, is to pause and unpause ads with the extension. Have reported to the team. Hopefully they can remedy this and get it up and running again. It was great, worked in the background and was very unobtrusive and easy to use.

I added this to chrome for facebook ads......still getting the ads...

I would give this extension 0 stars, but since that is impossible, I'll give it the next best option: 1 star. DO NOT install this extension. Rather than block ads and provide users a smooth sailing experience while watching youtube videos , this extension buffers youtube videos, resulting in a rough youtube video watching experience

It was effective for a while, now getting multiple ads before youtube videos start and interspersed throughout recommended videos. What am I paying for?

Starting today 10/2/2025 the ghostery extension is breaking youtube videos. It's blocking something that the youtube videos need to play. Of course I don't want any trackers, but we need to either have the ability to pick and choose which trackers get blocked, or Ghostery needs to find some way to "sandbox" this particular tracker so videos can play without disclosing our information to Youtube. I'm not sure if that can be done, but it would be nice.

I have been testing Ghostery for a while, but it is not as effective as I would like. The user interface is clean and easy to use, and I like that it blocks trackers, adverts, and pop-up cookie alerts. Having Ghostery completely free and unlimited is also good. However, there are some problems. Some websites do not work or display properly if pop-up cookie alerts are blocked, so I have to allow all cookie alerts to appear. Ghostery does not block adverts in Youtube or Facebook, and Youtube detects Ghostery and refuses to play videos unless I disable Ghostery. Also, there is no way to turn off Ghostery on all websites easily - sometimes I need to disable Ghostery on all websites, but the only way to do is to go through the settings menu in Chrome.

Turning it off does not turn it off. Cannot use this, it causes problems absolutely everywhere I need it turned off. Shopping is impossible until uninstalled. Do not recommend.

Don't use ghosters! It's malware that infects your system with various analyzers etc. Check its files via CRX manager! It's funny that an extension that pretends to be a protector injects infected Google analytics functions into all open pages... really funny..

when i start using it 2 months ago i was amazing, but since a week ago it stop working i got every single ad in YT i almost pay to be a contributor but doesn't work ... so well.. unistall it and gonna try to find another that actually work

Introduced a feature where ghostery will disable itself, based on user submissions.....so they created a system for entities to abuse so that they can get ghostery turned off on their websites. Why would i EVER allow a privacy/security focused tool to disable itself without my input? Ridiculous, used this for years but now its time to say goodbye forever. Mark my words this feature will lead to someone's death.

Still get You Tube adds

Ghostery has now become the thing it was trying to stop. The best one is when you get the new "See what's new in ghostery" POPUP in the middle of your screen....That can't be dismissed. Ruined.

Pop ups galore from ghostery themselves. What's new in ghostery! Nobody cares. Block trackers and ads, don't become their replacement annoyance.
