Anki Desktop Application Download and install Anki from https://apps.ankiweb.net/ Anki must be running while using the extension 2. AnkiConnect Add-on Open Anki Desktop Go to Tools → Add-ons → Get Add-ons Enter the code: 2055492159 Click OK to install Restart Anki when prompted Verify AnkiConnect is working by opening http://127.0.0.1:8765 in your browser - you should see "AnkiConnect v.6" or similar ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Using the Extension (Manual Card Creation) ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── 1. First Time Setup Make sure Anki is running with AnkiConnect installed Open the sidebar by clicking the extension icon or pressing Alt+Shift+M Select your desired deck and note type from the dropdowns 2. Creating a Flashcard Highlight text on any webpage Right-click and select "Create Anki Card" (or press Alt+Shift+N) The sidebar will open with the selected text in the first field Fill in any additional fields Add tags if desired (separate with spaces or newlines) Click "Save Card" to add it to Anki 3. Adding Media Fields with names containing "audio", "sound", "image", or "picture" will show upload buttons Click the button to select a file from your computer Supported formats: Images (PNG, JPG, GIF, etc.) and Audio (MP3, WAV, etc.) Files are automatically uploaded to your Anki media collection ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── AI Setup (Optional) 🤖 ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── The AI batch card generation feature is completely optional and requires your own OpenAI API key. 1. Get an OpenAI API Key Visit https://platform.openai.com/api-keys Create an account or sign in Click "Create new secret key" Copy the key (it starts with "sk-") Note: You'll need to add payment information to your OpenAI account. Typical cost per generation is $0.01-$0.03. 2. Configure the Extension Right-click the extension icon and select "Options" (or click "Settings" in the sidebar) Paste your OpenAI API key in the API Key field Click "Test Connection" to verify it works (Optional) Add custom instructions like "Focus on medical terminology" or "Generate cloze deletions" Click "Save" 3. Using AI Generation Highlight a section of text (paragraph, article section, etc.) on any webpage Open the sidebar (Alt+Shift+M) Click the "🤖 Generate Cards with AI" button (or press Alt+Shift+G) Wait 2-10 seconds while AI generates cards Review the generated cards in the preview modal Edit any cards if needed Uncheck cards you don't want Click "Add Selected" to add the chosen cards to Anki The AI will generate 4-6 cards by default, but you can configure this in settings.
